Southern Louisiana lawns are notorious for compacted soil that thwarts grass growth and encourages weeds. Aerating your lawn will get more oxygen, water, and nutrients into the root zone, which is especially beneficial to grass growing in clay or compacted soils. Fertilizer and weed control are the base of a good lawn program, but with our high rainfall and tough clay soils, Baton Rouge lawns benefit from annual or biannual aeration. Every year, a larger percentage of our clients decide that core aeration is right for their yard. Core aeration may be as beneficial to your lawn as fertilizing. It’s a true game-changer.
Aeration is the next step for those who take their lawn health seriously, and there are two ways to do it. Doing both is even better.
LIQUID AERATION
Liquid aeration is a newer technology that goes down into the soil 12 inches, which will improve drainage, get your yard ready for the spring, and improve your yard’s ability to take in nutrients, whether you’re adding fertilizer or just from the ground. It is 100% organic and safe for children and pets. Liquid aeration is a standard part of our lawn treatment program, while core aeration is an add-on but one we highly recommend.
BENEFITS OF LIQUID AERATION
- Creates fractures within the soil, allowing for deeper water penetration; roots will follow, making previously unreachable nutrients available to the plant.
- Can be done anytime during the growing season.
- Covers the entire lawn and goes far deeper than core aeration (12” vs. 4”).

N-Ext Air-8™ 0-0-5 Liquid Aeration is designed to break up and loosen topsoil and encourage deeper rooting to drive more oxygen into the topsoil profile. By utilizing key bio-stimulants and highly oxidizing material at key growth stages, N-Ext Air-8™ will give you the “Breakthrough” you’ve been looking for in your “Liquid Aeration” program.
Liquid aeration with a special application of RGS (Root Growth Stimulator) is now standard in our lawn treatment program. A Study done at UGA recently showed that RGS mixed with Air-8 increased root mass by 130% in one growing season, vs 5% for the control group.

N-Ext RGS™ functions as a biological magnifier. N-Ext RGS™ is designed to increase rooting and decrease stress pressure caused by heat and drought. The biologically active material contains Humic Acid and Sea Kelp to aid in initial spring green-up, to buffer and extend nitrogen release rates, and to add oxygen to the soil profile for greater nutrient uptake. Which will increase rooting and decrease stress pressure caused by heat and drought.

We’ve recently introduced mechanical/core aeration as an add-on service. While our standard program already includes liquid aeration—great for loosening up the soil on a typical lawn and promoting deeper roots and nutrient absorption—we’ve noticed that many lawns benefit from the added boost of mechanical aeration.
In this service, we bring a specialized machine to your yard, creating 3-4″ holes and leaving behind small “pellets.” These pellets break down within a week or two, enriching the soil. This mechanical aeration is particularly effective for yards facing heavy compaction, such as those in new construction areas, properties with mature trees, dense clay soils, or those experiencing significant foot and machine traffic.
The beauty of aeration? You can’t overdo it! Expect improvements in drainage, thicker grass, fewer weeds, and reduced fungus, giving your lawn the care it deserves.
